Originally there was to be a parish centre with a club room and chapel at the end of the westernmost footbridge across the Ruoholahti canal and special housing by the canal. In the back row, as seen from the canal, there was to be an ordinary residential house.

Due to the difficult economic situation of the 1990s depression, the parish discarded the Ruoholahti development. Conditions for special housing proved equally impossible

.In 1994, the site by the canal and the site bordered by Messitytönkatu and Selkämerenkatu streets were reserved for building owner-occupied flats.

In the design, canal views from the apartments were maximised with balconies and large windows. The business premises were situated towards the canal as well. The yard sides reflect the canal orientation of the flats, and the general outlook is varied.

The two blocks of flats were designed by Gullichsen Vormala Architects, Timo Vormala being the principal architect of the housing development.
