The Villa Karpio was originally an out-building on a sloping site, for which Aalto proposed some alterations.

First he drew up a fairly comprehensive repair plan; then added a central hallway which enabled him to build a two-storey extension and a garage on the steeply sloping site. In the end, the alterations were built in a significantly more modest form. The building was only one storey high, housing two rooms and a kitchen. The loggia-like veranda was also built smaller than originally planned.
